چکیده
Abstract Background The present investigation was aimed at establishing the pharmacognostical parameters and preliminary phytochemical screening of Annona reticulata Linn. (Annonaceae) root. Pharmacognostical studies evaluation A. root were carried out by following standard procedures to provide information that help identify species. species Annonaceae family are documented possess anticonvulsant property, while its reported be used as a folklore medicine treat epilepsy. In this study, anti-convulsant activity extract further investigated in mouse model with seizures induced pentylenetetrazole (PTZ; 60 mg/kg, i.p.). Diazepam (5 mg/kg) drug. Prior induction seizures, ethanol (100, 200, 400 p.o.,) 0.1% sodium CMC administered. Later, onset, duration convulsions along recovery recorded. Results can recognized crown shape, leaves lengthy petioles, fleshy petals heart-shaped fruits. Roots cylindrical rootlets have aromatic odour. Presence oil globules rhomboidal calcium oxalate crystals cortex, sclerenchyma cells cortex secondary phloem, starch grains phloem xylem, uni- tri-seriate medullary rays key diagnostic characters Preliminary extracts revealed presence phenolic compounds, tannins, alkaloids, carbohydrates, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, proteins, fixed fats. total alkaloid content 0.524% w/w, flavonoid 16.65 mg QE/g 59.54 GAE/g, respectively. Based on values obtained from activity, it is evident offered significant protection against PTZ-induced convulsion mice. Conclusion current study aids not only identification crude drug material but also standardization parameters. Further, findings indicated ethanolic Linn displayed property could attributed imperative bioactives like addition other metabolites.
